Formerly 2nd Battalion The Royal Green Jackets, reformed as 4th Battalion The Rifles in 2007.

Aldershot Garrison, Hampshire

Originally a mechanized infantry battalion equipped with Bulldog tracked armoured vehicles, they now mostly use the significantly more comfortable Mastiff (and its derivatives) to move soldiers quickly to seize and hold ground, dominate urban areas or control mountainous terrain and wooded/forested areas.

As part of the 1st Specialised Infantry Brigade, they are organised into small training teams comprised mostly of JNCO's and a few Riflemen in support. These teams are tasked with training and mentoring of the armed forces of allied nations such as the Afghan National Army and the Iraqi Security forces.

Recent Deployments: Kosovo, Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan
