The Jagdpanther , (literally hunting panther,) was a German tank destroyer in service from '44 to '45, primarily on the Eastern front.
Many military historians consider the Jagdpanther to be one of the best tank destroyers of the war due to the combination of the 8.8 cm KwK 43 of the Tiger II and the proven Panther chassis.
Numbers produced were small but the vehicle had an impact on the battlefield well above simple numbers.
- Number Produced
- December 1943....................... 1
- January - December 1944....... 226
- January - May 1945 .............. 198
Feared by many Allied tankers, it was best used on the Russian front. The only counterpart to it was the Soviet SU-100 which suffered from poor optics and a bigger yet less accurate gun.
