Based in Carlisle, the King's Own Royal Border Regiment (official abbreviation 'Kings Own Border') was formed at Barnard Castle on 1st October 1959 from the King's Own Royal Regiment (Lancaster) and the Border Regiment. It was amalgamated with the with the King's Regiment, and the Queen's Lancashire Regiment, to form the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment (King's, Lancashire and Border) in 2006.
