A somewhat short-lived and curious amalgamation of The Gloucestershire Regiment (1 Glosters) and The Duke of Edinburgh's Royal Regiment (1 DERR), which combined two regiments that nobody wanted to join into one, known as the 'M4 Rifles'.

Only regiment in the British Army permitted to wear a backbadge as well as their normal cap badge.

Also gained the US Distinguished Unit Citation from their merging with the Gloustershire Regiment.

Algamated with the Light Infantry in 2007 to become 1 Rifle's.
