Africa Star |
---|
This star was awarded to British & Commonwealth forces for operations in North Africa, Somaliland, Eritrea, Abyssinia and on the island of Malta between 10 June 1940 & 12 May 1943. The clasps for the 1st & 8th Armies are purely army clasps, whereas the North Africa clasp is for air operations and naval personnel (Merchant included) who crewed inshore vessels. When the ribbon alone is worn, the issue of clasps is denoted by either a silver rosette for the North Africa clasp, or a bronze '1' or '8' for the respective 1st & 8th Army clasps.
