Barnes Wallis

Barnes Wallis was the inventor of the Bouncing Bomb, used sucessfully against the German dams of the Ruhr valley during WW2. Also invented the geodesic structure used in the Wellington Bomber and influenced the variable-geometry wing as used with the European Tornado and US F-111 (Large, rigid, light-weight structures being his specialty). In addition he helped out on the design of the Jodrell Bank radio telescope in the 1950's when they got stuck at a hard bit.

Also a term used to describe the latest army-issue doss bag, due to its resemblance to a Bouncing Bomb when stored in a compression sack.
