Organisation, in England and Wales, in charge of grotting up any prosecution that hasn't already been bolloxed by the fuzz. Run by the Director of Public Prosecutions. Equivalent in the tribal North is the Procurator Fiscal.
Underpaid, as lawyers go, therefore pitifully inadequate in the face even of Legal Aid defence counsel. Have been known to drop clangers even when the defendant has, genuinely, confessed, often by not submitting the correct paperwork or forgetting to have the defendant summoned to appear.
