1.n Reference to a member of a unit shooting team, from the days when firing points were actually covered with gravel, the Rifle fired big bullets, and the APWT could be passed from the prone position. Of course, in these enlightened and risk-assessed days, firing points are increasingly covered in astroturf or foam plastic. This is down to gravel being made up of little pointy hard things (because the idle Bastard range staff went down the garden centre and installed thin layers of rough gravel rather than deep beds of smooth gravel) and too many little darlings were hurting their knees and palms.
2.n A STAB, anorak on several subjects, capable of talking the hind legs off a donkey. Can be mind-numbingly boring on marksmanship and computers.
