Pedant warning: I know the shell is the weapon, and the howitzer is merely the means of delivery. There isn't a category called "means of delivery" though, so you can push off back into the RSA Ammo Display Room and polish your cannon balls.

A howitzer is a piece of field or siege artillery that fires shells in a trajectory which tends towards a high vertex height and plunging final phase.

A bit like a big-boy's mortar.

The howitzer is handy for attacking trenches and stuff behind hills as the shells drop almost vertically.

These days, many guns, such as the Light Gun can fire in both low angle like a gun, and high angle like a howitzer.
