Ladysmith

Settlement in South Africa, named for Juana Maria de los Dolores de Leon Smith, wife of Lieutenant General Sir Henry George Wakelyn Smith, 1st Baronet of Aliwal. (AKA Sir Harry Smith) Governor of Cape Colony. Also location of the Siege of Ladysmith which lasted 118 days, from 2 November 1899 to 28 February 1900, during the Boer War. 3,000 British soldiers died during the siege.
