A Second World War RAF base west of Newcastle-upon-Tyne which was taken over by the Army and used as a Training Establishment. Seemingly miles from anywhere it was only a short taxi ride from the hot spots of Newcastle making weekends an experience if not the rest of the week. The BFT rout out on the airfield was a three legged triangular route in which no matter which direction you were running you always seemed to be running into wind.
In the late 1970s and early 1980s it was the home of the Junior Signalman Wing of 11th Signal Regiment. It was then home of the Junior Infantry Battalion of the Scottish and King's Divisions before being taken over by 39 Regt RA.
