Petrol Oils & Lubricants

The armed forces in its wisdom calls its POL by a series of TLAs , although it's more like a code to give the user a bit of a clue as to what each is for. These are called Joint Service Designations (JSD) and NATO Codes.

  • AL - Miscellaneous Fluids (e.g Alcohol, AL5)
  • C - Corrosion Preventative
  • F - Fuels (e.g. F34 AVTUR)
  • G - Grease
  • H - Hydraulic Fluid (e.g. H515)
  • LG - Lime-based Grease
  • OC - Oil Compounded
  • OEP - Oil Extreme Pressure
  • OM - Oil Mineral (e.g. OM10)
  • OMD - Oil Mineral Detergent
  • OX - Oil Miscellaneous (e.g. OX8)
  • PX - Protective Miscellaneous (e.g. PX32)
  • S - Specialised Products
  • XG - Miscellaneous Grease (e.g. XG279)
  • ZX - Speciality Miscellaneous
