Stationed since late 2003 in Oxford Barracks, Munster, the 1st Battalion Scots Guards is in the role of Armoured Infantry, equipped with the Warrior armoured fighting vehicle, having previously specialised in arid and desert environments. The Battalion is due to return to the United Kingdom in the spring of 2009. The Regiment will continue to be represented in London by its independent sub-unit, F Company, and by the Band of the Regiment.

The 1st Battalion Scots Guards Battlegroup is now fully operational in Iraq, and is working closely with the Royal Dragoon Guards. The current tasks include protecting power supplies, and guarding the main road between Basra and Fallujah.

The Battalion completes its duty in Iraq at the end of April, and will return to Munster in early May.
