Congratulations!

Promotion to SYSOP.

I hope your lycra underwear and cape comes through the post quickly. Mine took about a fortnight, but the dark grey is very slimming and the supportive gusset is a great boon.

FluffyBun 10:25, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

My God. That's the first time I've been promoted to ANYTHING!

Buck Felize 17:15, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Move vs Redirect

Ey up Buckfast (notice you got a CBE this week, or rather your avatar did. Not before time)

You can move a page if there is a blank space to put it into, or you can redirect a page to another page for sake of commonality, or when there could be different ways of spellung or abbrv stuff.

When you use the "move" command, all it does is create a redirect anyway, so links are preserved.

Thus, if you use redirects and moves instead of manually relinking and suchlike, or making a new page and copying stuff over, all the links still work.

Sometimes it doesn't matter, like when you move or bin an orphan page. If you want to see what pages link to the one you are editing, the "what links here" command in the Toolbox (bottom left) is the very chappie.

This is a reprise of a note on my discussion page that BCO left a few months back :D

FluffyBun 13:42, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Aye, but what if I try to move to an already existing page. I'm trying to sort out the Boot Combat High entry, as there were three: BHL (binned), BCH and Boot Combat High. I've pasted the text from BCH in to Boots Combat High and planned to redirect the BCH link to it. My head hurts because of this, but here goes...

Buck Felize 13:49, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

In the case of BCH/Boot Combat High, I'd concentrate all the suitable text into one page, say Boots Combat High, then turn all the other pages into redirects to Boots Combat High. That way, any links that may have pointed to BHL or BCH take the reader to Boots Combat High.

FluffyBun 14:10, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

All the text has been consolidated in to the single Boot Combat High entry. I don't seem to be able to redirect the other empty entries.

Buck Felize 14:24, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Ah.. well done. I couldn't figure it out. It'd be nice if we had a simple redirect facility rather than a move tab, or am I taklng through my 'arris. Much calamity has occured in the past when I've created pages that didn't show up on searches but existed uncatted.

Buck Felize 14:31, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Geezer. In among the movements of Scaley stuff, there are a couple of pages that have no content but still have active links. Once you've finished, post the links into my talk page and I'll delete them. Have a root through the "uncategorised pages" list to see the ones I mean. Cheers. FluffyBun 14:06, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

FluffyBun 08:50, 26 November 2007 (UTC) Thanks for getting shut of that "Colony" category. feel free to do the same to many other of similar ilk ;-)

Ah you certainly sound as if you understood the concept of allyness back then.

As for myself, it's taken me a while to perfect the full-on ally effect. Back in the 80's norgies, and two-tone lightweights were about the limit for me, well that and that stupid fashion of rolling your socks down over the tops of your boots so it looked a bit like you were wearing puttees, and I'm almost ashamed to admit it... sewn in creases!

Sewn-ins are perfectly acceptable - and ally. I had a nice little line in doing such mods: tailored trop shirts etc. Socks over the boot tops, however, was only permissible whilst wearing shorts - or rather cut down lightweights! Dear God man, one could almost be mistaken for RPC!

  • Will do BF - just give me a few days! DarthDoctr 10:06, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Cheers ears!

Did you notice that your last edit undid one of twelve similar instances of vandalism? I've reverted the other eleven. Tode 07:42, 1 June 2007 (BST)

Er... no I didn't. That's pretty clever - even for me! BF

Congrats!

  • Well done on your 2K, mate! Proximo 07:41, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

  • Hey, about 6 months ago I PMed and asked for that very distinction to be bestowed upon your cynical, satirical arrse. Afraid it was passed to the MoD and they spent the funds for the tag on a new pot plant to sit behind a desk ... his names Des. --Rabid Hams 09:23, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
  • Well you've got one now! :) Proximo 13:01, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

4000 not out

Hamsters everywhere (rabid or not) would like to congratulate Buck on reaching 4000 wiki edits and wish the cynical, sarky, witty cnut well in making it to 5000 ... possibly as early as next week. Crack on.... from a bitter RH languishing on a paltry 3800ish! --Rabid Hams 09:55, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Welcome back

I'd like you welcome your sarky, cynical, humourous arrse back to the wiki. Been quiet, all the regular editors have been missing for weeks. --Rabid Hams 14:59, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

Thank you your rabidness. I've been away on ops. But I can't talk about it. Knao wot ah meen? Buck Felize 08:53, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Karle Halliday

Been trying to start this, think the best course of action will be to put it on the talk page so you can transfer it across. GMP (Plod) have had words with him but he has risen again this time pretending to be a Para and this time claiming to be raisng money for the paras Assoc and would you believe the NSPCC, we have the documentation to prove.

Let me know how you want this to progress.--Panda plodder 21:31, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

Have done a few more sections, its knowing how to pull it all together! update on his latest, now posing as a member of 2 Para calling himself either Old Para or Crazy Para--Panda plodder 13:32, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

Re Karle Halliday

Can you contact me please as I have very important additional information.

It'll be easier if you PM me on the main forum, as I can't find your details.Buck Felize 16:11, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

Anyone here

Hi Buck. I Been away a while and just sort of noticed recently - not much activity, and I guess the spam filters are busy? Anyway, I was taking a look at the forum and may chip in somewhere there.. All the best, K, Wingated 02:24, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

Spam filters? I AM the spam filter (well... one of them anyway)! Some of those generated names are hilarious though. Buck Felize 08:32, 11 March 2012 (UTC)

I'm back! Just thought I'd see if my old password worked. Looks like the old Wiki needs some loving, eh? Proximo 19:58, 4 April 2012 (UTC)

Spam

Many thanks for your efforts in combating the latest influx of spam. I've just upgraded a few of our anti spam measures which I hope will mean that we don't get so badly spammed at least for a bit! Cheers Bad CO (talk) 20:10, 27 September 2014 (BST)
