Territorial Force War Medal

Instituted in 1919, this medal was awarded to all members of the Territorial Force who were actually serving on 4th August 1914 and who had completed 4 years service prior to that date. To be eligible, they also would have had to have volunteered for overseas service on or before 30th September 1914 and have served overseas between 4th August 1914 & 11th November 1918.

Basically, this medal was intended for established pre-war part-time soldiers who had volunteered for, and actually served overseas. Only 34,000 of these were issued, which makes it the scarcest of all the Great War medals. Nursing Sisters serving with the TF also qualified, as did those who were ineligible for the 1914 or 1914-15 Stars.
