The Golden Rule of High Command

You do not get to be CGS - or any other service chief - without learning to pucker up and kiss politicians' arses.

For example, when PoD was minded to sashay into Kosovo, he rounded on the politicians back home, condemning the Army's crap rifles and radios, which he firmly blamed on the civvy lickspittles. He determined that they were 'unsuitable' for operations of this kind. And lo! Once he became CGS, the same bits of crap kit were miraculously transformed into 'highly suitable' for warfighting operations.

Nice one PoD.
