Trench (n)

Trench (n)

  • A long narrow hole in the ground populated by extremely pissed off soldiers who have probably been living in the hole for a while. Cleverly used by the Maoris of New Zealand to avoid getting shot during their wars against the British Empire, a revolutionary concept for just about everyone at the time.
  • Used extensively in WW1 where it was home to the average Tom on the ground. Staff Officers had to rough it in nice comfy châteaux about 35 miles from the front. Still the safest place to be in an artillery barrage ... the trench that is, not the château.
